NSO Music Director Andrew Berryman conducts Wagner's grand Rienzi overture, followed by Liszt's Piano Concerto No 1 in E flat major, played by Ioannis Potamousis, whose virtuoso interpretation of the piece won him a top prize at the 2001 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati. Bernstein's timeless Broadway classic West Side Story Suite completes the first part of the evening. One of the major symphonies of the orchestral titans' repertoire and a tour de force, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.4 in F minor brings the concert to a grand finale.
Music lovers will get a chance to be up close and personal with the orchestra for the Open rehearsal earlier, at 4.30pm on concert day, 4 March. They can watch and hear what happens prior to a live performance. The instrumentalists and music director will be available to answer questions in the break or at the end of the rehearsal.
